Amanda was raised on a farm and ranch in Arapahoe, Wyoming and graduated with a Doctor of Jurisprudence degree in 2005 from the University of Wyoming. She has focused her career in the areas of land acquisition and energy development in the states of Wyoming, North Dakota and Pennsylvania. Amanda continues to focus her career on responsible energy development and brings the unique perspective of an in-house Landman and Division Order Analyst to the practice of law.
Amanda started her legal career in 2006 as an associate for Lonabaugh & Riggs, L.L.P. in Sheridan, Wyoming where she began drafting acquisition and drilling title opinions and conducted due diligence searches for corporate acquisitions and transfers. She also represented landowners and corporate clients in federal, state and local administrative agency hearings, negotiations and mediations. She also counseled employers on wage and hour matters and personnel policies; acquiring experience defending employers in wrongful termination and discrimination actions. In 2008, Amanda worked for Welborn, Sullivan, Meck & Tooley, P.C. as an associate, where she dedicated her practice to exclusively drafting drilling and division order title opinions covering fee, federal and state lands.
After 2008, Amanda shifted the focus of her career to corporate in-house land department opportunities beginning with Talisman Energy Inc. in Canada and Pennsylvania, as a Contracts and Division Order Analyst, and most recently with ConocoPhillips as a Senior Landman in Midland and Houston, Texas. While in corporate positions she worked closely with in-house and outside counsel regarding title issues ranging from the correct interpretation of vesting documents, to regulatory requirements, unit formation, trespass prevention, calculation of overriding royalties and the proper analysis and application of The Rule of Apportionment specific to Pennsylvania properties.
In 2014-2015 Amanda successfully managed the land side of a robust 6 rig, sequential drilling program; reviewing capital expenditures, clearing title, balloting partners and setting up over 69 wells for payment. She was given the opportunity to analyze and opine on agreements and development plans involving the nuances of unconventional drilling and development. Amanda’s most rewarding experience was mentoring and providing early career landmen with title fundamentals for their land careers in addition to the development of in-house training for a more diverse group of land professionals.
Amanda has volunteered and provided pro bono legal advice and/or active participation for multiple charities and events supporting causes including children with disabilities, Special Olympics, domestic violence/abuse, animal rescues and many others.
