Our History

Lon Abadie moved to Durango in 1992 at the start of the coalbed methane boom.  Since that time, Lon has acquired unsurpassed knowledge of the San Juan Basin’s history, operators and its many nuances, providing a strong foundation for the firm as it stands today.  Andrew Schill joined Lon in the summer of 2007, after developing and honing his legal skills in the rural courthouses south of Oklahoma City.

As the firm has grown over the years our work has expanded beyond the San Juan Basin to the major basins in New Mexico, Texas, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Louisiana and Wyoming. Our latest expansion occurred in 2019, when Abadie | Schill opened their downtown Santa Fe office in close proximity to the home of numerous state and federal agencies, boards and commissions to better serve our clients’ growing needs in New Mexico.

Abadie | Schill strives to foster a culture intent on providing the best legal services by placing their client’s interests above their own, while nurturing an atmosphere that promotes creative problem-solving and virtuosity in their staff and attorneys.  The pursuit of the best representation possible for our clients starts with Abadie | Schill caring for the health and welfare of their employees. We provide an employee experience that aligns well with the southwest mountain culture through a fitness program that includes local gym memberships, group CrossFit classes for all employees and their own employee-only affiliate, San Juan CrossFit

We enjoy our clients' regular visits to our small mountain towns where they can enjoy endless outdoor opportunities to raft, fish, and ski in Northern New Mexico and Southwest Colorado where desert and mountain geographies meet.
